If Phoenix Graphics doesn't have them, Stencils & Stripes might. Both are suppliers to Year One, but you can save some time and money by going direct; they probably don't have them in stock anyway (I used to work for Year One/Next Gen...I know!).

 

have both a v8 and 2 v6s...love them all...v6 is a 3.1....and also a 2.8...both can push you into your seat....3.1 has a shift kit on the tranny....good strong shifts....it also has over 140,000 on it....orignal everything....shift kit was put in a couple years after the car was bought....car is a 92 f-bird....also i havent changed the oil in over 20,000....engine still runs like new....only thing i've had to do was install a new water pump and tension pulley....take what i've said how you want....but its my 2 cents....

 

I have 2 cars 2.8 firebird and 87 GTA with 5.7 You are making the right choice getting the 2.8 with the T-5 If I wide on throttle power shift I can chirp the tires going into 2nd. I beat that car and it always comes back for more. No mods done just tune up once a year and change the oil every 3000 miles. Get the 2.8 if you love it right you will not be dissapointed

 

I work as a mech at a used car dealership and have driven everything from BMW525's, supercharged MAz Millenia's, WS6 Trans Ams, turbo supras, bunch of crappy ri*cer cars (still laugh at the buzzing bee mufflers) and a few turbo Volvos. Cars are like people, THEY'RE ALL DIFFERENT. A 2.8 will get spanked running with most "turbo" cars. A 2.8 will have its **** handed to it racing most sports cars of European decent. Don't even think of revving next to anything with a 350 in it. BUT-it will STOMP the crap out of Civics, Early Accords, Eclipses', Cavaliers, older celicas, Fox body's with 6's And most cars that are of the same generation as yours. A 2.8 is not a race motor, never will be. But is fun to work on, corners better than the V8s (stock) and can move pretty good with a few modifications. Going from a stoplight is all that matters in our cars, stomping the rich kids Neon clad Civic till the next light, and smiling as he says it was too short a distance. But thats just IMO....Have a nice day!
Oh yeah, and Doward, You rock dude, going above and beyond IS what theses motors are good for (who wants to spend 1.5 hr changing plugs on their V8???)

 

This was pretty much my first ever post on these boards.. too bad I found a Camaro with a 350 huh. Oh well, I think I'm happier with the V8 then I would have been with the V6. But who knows.. Guess its a little late now huh...

I have a 1988 Camaro with a 2.8 and a 5-speed. Totally stock, it would take Hondas from light to light like nothing. I even kept up with a 1987 Camaro with a mildly built 350 in it. It has 148k on the ticker. It has been a good car for me but I recently picked up a 454 hi performace motor for it and I'm gettin ready to build it. Good luck on that 2.8, they're fun motors when you don't get a crappy one

Good call on the oil change, your gonna have to use a knife when you do change it.

 

I began with the 2.8, then went to a LT1 z28 camaro, now I have a GTP supercharged. My 2.8 was a great start. I learned more with that car then any of the other cars I owned. If you want to learn how to do things and not be totally confused and cramped the 2.8 is the way to go.

Now for performance I would get a posi and a set of 3.73 gears. This will make the car much more fun, plus if you ever sway a v8 in you will be set. Do mods that will carry over to a v8 sway or a better v6 swap.

Tubular Lower Control Arms, Tubular Pan Hard Rod, Sub Frame Connectors, 35MM Front Sway Bar, Koni Front Struts, KYB Rear Shocks, Dynomax Cat Back Exhaust, these items will all work on a v8 swap… Also look into adding 4th gen seats, a new steering wheel, a 150MPH instrument cluster.


I would buy a 2.8 V6 camaro again. I would like to find one cheap to Modify. I would keep it in my garage and build it up.

I would start with the suspension and make it handle like a vette.

Yes a 2.8 ROCKS… It is a great way to learn how to build up a car.

 

im at college rite now...and the oil change isnt so much a problem...the problem is i need to replace the whole pan...thats what i bought the 2.8 for only a couple hundred for...i have finals this week...then i should be getting around to swapping the pans...i also need the new starter and alternator off the 2.8...then the 3.1 will be in for some nice fresh oil...then a 1000 mile oil change...then back to the 2500-3000 mile changes...my 3.1 is still runnin strong though...the oil was supposed to be changed back in like june if not earlier...gm built these engines to last...she'll still go over 5k rpm...and over 100mph...:hail:

 

the 2.8 can really take a beating because i broke 4 flexplates before the motor got the rodknock that sent it to the junk yard

I originally got my 89 RS 2.8 back when I was in high school back in 97. Loved the car then, love it now. I do plan though (whenever the engine finally goes) to spend all the time, money, and all the fun things that go with swapping by swapping in a 350. Also, TomP, I totally hear you on all the things that have to be done, but that'll probably be another 4 years down the road at least. Probably by that time I'll have found something else with a 8cylinder in it anyway, so *shrug* Anyhow, current plans are to install a new (sorta) reman'ed dist into my v6 since it seems to like vibrating the rotor up into the cap. Yet, gosh, if the engine ever goes... man I'd hate to leave the car. I figure, keep it looking as stock as possible, yet hot-rodding it with another 120hp's... eh. heheh, sorry about that. Felt like ranting.
