z24 would probably be lighter... that is a Cav, right?

3.1/T5 in an Fbody, with NO power anything, wouldn't be bad, either.

Depends more on if you want RWD or FWD, and which car your buddy likes better.

GM sure used those ol' LHO's in a bunch of things, didn't they?

I think the Z24 would win, due to the weight difference.

As far as performance goes....it's really about even. They both have the same motors.....basically it's like Doward said...a decision between fwd and rwd. However I imagine the Camaro 3.1 would be a lot easier to work on than the Cavalier.

What about the fact that the RWD car would get better traction off from a stop - rear end squats down, he gets more traction due to weight, he moves forward fster, already got the jump on the Lumina... My wife's car is just a grocery-getter (3100 GP), but when you stomp the gas from a stop, you have to be careful or when the front end raises up, you'll lose traction if you stomp it too hard. Don't FWD drag-dudes got some form of wheelie bars that stick out a mile from the rear - I was told that those help the front tires stay on the ground, where they need to be.

Just my crazy two cents, although if I could fix my ol' GP, it sure makes a good daily driver...

3.1 cavys are waaaay faster than a 3.1 cammy, lo3 cammys too, i had a 3.1 cavy (1990, so it had the same gears as the earlier 2.8's) auto, it was dead even as fast as a 305 tpi auto cammy, i know cause i raced one then i went out and bought one. get the camaro tho they are way better looking and have more potential(sp?).

pvt...yes, the Camaro will usually do better off the line because of traction, but past that the Cavalier's weight will let it win. My friend had a front wheel drive Saturn with 20 less horsepower than my Camaro, and my Camaro would eat him up off the line but as soon as we hit 2nd gear, he blew my doors off. That's weight for ya. And FYI, the Z24 is a Cavalier. The Lumina is a Z34.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the f-bodies never got the generation II 60* v6 (with aluminum heads, splayed valves, etc), but had the gen I (iron heads) all the way up to 92.. I think the gen II's make more power...

Correct....We never got the aluminum heads. Which is either a good or a bad thing, depending on your point of view.
