Cold air intake

I was wondering which cold air intake is better. slp Cold Air Induction or Lingenfelter SuperTube Cold Air Induction, the question is for a 92 and a 97 firebird.

well, i don't know on the 97 but for the 92, i've never heard of anyone but slp making a cold air intake and its not much good. i'd go with a dual snorkel tpi intake or a homemade cold air intake (using 3" pvc). if you want a dual snorkel tpi intake, i've got one for sale.

uhm.. to my knowledge the port injection camaro dual snorkel won't clear a firebird's hood.. custom fabrication is going to be your best bet..

Also, this is a third gen message board.. most of us don't know about or don't care about 4th gens (except as totalled cars, in which case we can tell you quite a bit about retrofitting 4th gen drivetrains and interiors into thirdgens).. so for the 97, your best bet is to find a 4th gen board..

Look to the guys in the V6 section at http://www.camaroz28.com ; they're from my old web hangout, and know their stuff pretty damn well. That's where you'll find the most 4th gen guys.

ok, sorry, i didn't know about any fitment issues w/ the dual snorkel and the firebirds. sounds like 3" pvc and a cone filter is gonna be your best bet.

A true cold air system is worth it but the pvc and cone under the hood is more for looks. True cold air takes air directly from out side the car and routes it directly into the engine with no gaps or spaces. I don't even like the idea of any enine sucking that hot underhood air [even yours], no matter how fancy/pricy the filter.

Both my cars have true cold air and you can tell a difference.
The few time I got a hole in my underhood flex hosing on my Bird I could tell by how the car responded.
[It did not like that nasty under hood air.]

It takes some work and creativity to come up with a true cold air system without dropping $1500 on a new hood, but it can be done.

My wagon was easy after the front corner got crunched. I didn't need two headlights anyays. The Bird took a little more work and $60 bucks for some 68-69 Bird insert hood scoops. It also took some creative work with the hosing.

well worth the effort though.
