Idle question?

I know that after you unplug the battery the computer has to do an idle relearn, and you have to drive on the freeway for like 30 minutes at 50 MPH or something. The problem is that after I started my car up after putting my new headers on, getting my custom y pipe hooked up to the dynomax catback, and the oxygen sensor plugged in, my car will hardly idle and died a couple of times if I didn't modulate the throttle. Is this just because it needs to relearn the idle, or is something screwed up that I need to look into. I haven't gotten any codes as of yet, but have not really gotten a chance to drive it because I am doing work on my brakes. Any help would be great.

Did you install an EGR valve on those headers? I was thinking maybe if you had an EGR valve on there it could be choking the engine. Whenever I have unhooked the negative battery cable or the fuse for the computer I have never had a problem like that. In my own opinion idle learn is the computer's way of running at the optimal ranges such as rpm at idle and cruise. I'd check for another problem like perhaps a bad Idle Air Control motor which could be stuck closed making the engine die.

I figured it out. It was that a couple of vacuum lines had become disconnected which was causing it to run like crap. Thanks.

That's funny, I automatically thought it must be something more complicated than it was. Good to hear you figured it out.

I spent 30 minutes tracking down an electrical problem on a chick's firebird once.. I know these cars inside and out, right? I can find and fix just about anything.. tightening the positive battery cable ended up helping alot.. man I felt like an idiot.. she was hot, too

Just a friendly reminder to check simple stuff first
