yeah, the flexplate on an auto is very light.
Also, flexplates have to flex, which is why they call them flexplates. Aluminum, unlike steel tends to snap instead of flex.

Transmission: 4 Speed Automatic (700-R4)
Automatics have flexplates and I don't think they make any aftermarket ones for the 2.8,3.1, nor the 3.4.
However, there is one company that makes aluminim flywheels for 2.8's and 3.1's
