Engine Fire
anyone else ever had an engine fire?
seems like the cable from pos battery terminal all the way to alternator is smoked! not too much damage other than that.
i was at a car wash, when the car stalled. i tried starting it up and then noticed smoke coming out under the hood! it was flaming pretty good.
needless to say, it's out of commission for a while.
sitting at 282,000 miles (all original). was hoping to get to 300,000.
oi!~

Thats sucks. I had a fire in my car. Turnes out the bare wire was rubbing against the frame and sparked it. Its all fixed. Thats alot of mileage you have. What have you done to your car? Engine rebuilds? Or anything that went on it. I have 1988 firebird also with 128.000 on it right now. It also has a 5 speed. Can you send me some pictures of your car? Interested? Thanks

It's probably a good idea to check your wiring harness every so often when these cars get this old, especially when the mileage is high. I think I'm going to do a check on mine before I put it back on the street this spring, now that I'm thinking of it. Wires are pretty important to think about...ask Fiero owners

car is straight stock, no mods. one other thing is that i seldomly ran the AC. i always felt it put too much strain on the engine.
here's what's gone wrong (that i can remember anyways):
Fuel pump @ 180,000
FUel pump @ 250,000
Alternator (4X)
Starter (2X)
Water Pump (2X)
MAF (1X)
Cat Conv. (1X)
Clutch (2X)
Ignition Coil (1X)
Battery (2X)
Radiator (1X, although I don't think it needed it)
Thermostat (3X)
EGR (1X)
Suspension, brakes, ... here and there.
don't believe I have any pictures. will get a few up in the next couple weeks. still has a nice sleek look to it. t-tops and all.

Thats awesome. Can't wait to see the pictures. What happened with you MAF once that went? What were the sysmtoms because i think mine is gone on my car. I have stock exhuast on my car but it seems pretty good. You ever change your cat? How stronge is the engine now? You think you can still put more milage on it? I don't beat on my car, but i don't know about the prevous owner and it had about 128.000 when i got it. Thanks
