Nitros Question

I was wondering i know its around 500-600 dollars for NOS and isnt all that hard to put in atleast thats what ive heard. But what i never hear about is how you get bottles filled up and how much it costs, and how much does it take for abottle to be used up on one of our small engines. Thanks
Mitchell

PS also I was really thinkinga bout putting it in. What mods shoudl be done before using NOS.

for filling up your nitrous bottle, you'd have to go to a local performance shop in your area....around st. louis there are many, and i'm more than sure you can find them in your area as well. As far as mods go, there really arne't any that are needed if you're running in moderation, but there is one thing that's very important. Be sure you engine is in good working condition, ensure the engine is well in tuned, and also be certain that your ignition system is able to operate optimually. There's a kit for the 2.8L v6 on hawks thirdgen i believe (one of the sponsors on the boards) along with hmmm, the ones w/ the blue website, can't remember their name off hand. Or you could order through jegs, or summit, ur choice. You'll need a dry system, (injects nitrous only, no gas) as our intakes don't flow gasoline well, plus there's no guarenteed atomization of the gas (you can get a puddle....bad) The reason i say make sure ur engine is working properly, is a set of bad rings or leaky intake and exhaust valves aren't going to like it when they're being crammed full of nitrous oxide in addition to the already violent gas/air mix. Bustin the ring lands can be done w/ minimal work if you're cars not running quite right. Also, any loss of Fuel to the engine, or insuffecient spark and we can all say hello to detonation, and we might get to watch ur cylinder head blow through your hood....Good luck, get her tuned, get her running well and properly, then get urself some juice.

On the contrary, if there were any mods i'd say to do, it'd be a MSD6AL ignition, 8.8MM wires, Bosch +4 plugs, possibly some larger injectors 13lb stock so maybe 17lb, (u'll run rich on the street, but it's safety w/ boost), and probably an AFPR (adjustable fuel pressure regulator). Another must, get a fuel pressure guage for inside your car, along with a guage to monitor the nitrous pressure, fuel press. goes bye bye, shut her down, like NOW.

Just to chime in briefly, I heard MSD actually recommends that you NOT use platinum plugs with their boxes but rather traditional plugs.

But yeah, definitely get your stuff running right...nitrous will make a little problem a WHOLE lot bigger. And make sure your tranny or clutch is decently strong too. Otherwise the added power might give you slip.

never use platinum tipped plugs when running nitrous. the heat will cause the platinum to erode very quickly and cause it to pit into the piston and everything around it. use regular plugs or if you can find it or afford it always use iridum tipped plugs. does anyone know what a good aftermarket cam for our 3.1's would be with nitrous?

I imagine a nitrous cam would be similar to a supercharger cam.....short duration, high lift? But that's just my guess.
