Vortec 2.8/3.1/3.4?

Went by a junk yard the other day and saw an engine laying out that had "Vortec" on the valve covers, and the head exhaust setup like a 60* V6...
The top cover was missing and it was a mirror of the 60* as well. Direct port fuel injection. Is what I saw a legend?

More than likely

Never seen a 60* Vortec (wish I had though...)

Dunno what you saw but it wasn't a 2.8-3.4.

It was probably an early 90's 4.3L V6 w/ Central Port Injection. Those are 90* engines.

the CPI intakes sorta look like TPI, w/the runners, but they fake. Especially when you take the top off to change the injector

thats the thing though. The top intake WAS off. There was a central distribution block, and what I can only guess was fuel lines going to the intake ports.

That sounds like a 4.3L CPI engine.....which looks nothing like our fuel injection system. Have you ever even looked at a 2.8-3.4 fuel rail?

yes. I have. I have also replaced injectors.
I have seen the CPI injector, this looked nothing like it.

What do you mean by "fuel lines going to the intake ports"? Sounds like the poppet valves for the CPI injector ...? Odd. Next time you go, see if you can get a casting # or something off the block.

Uh well actually, to see if it was a 4.3, you could just see what kind of water pump it has... or, see which cylinder is closest to the timing chain cover. If the driver's side cyl is closest, then it's not a 2.8/3.1/3.4.
