Mine's still holding up; bolted it together back in '98.
The previous one lasted from '95 to '98, it "broke" because my right rear hanger had let loose, and the i-pipe was bouncing off the panhard rod. The pipe cracked right at the inlet to the muffler. Since I didn't have my welder back then, I just bought a new cat-back. And if this one cracks again, I can weld it- but even if I couldn't, I'd buy another Dynomax.
There's really no reason to weld it; once you clamp it down, it'll hold. Tip; smear some anti-sieze compound on the outside of the tailpipes, before you slide the pipes into the muffler. This will help you align the pipes to the bumper. You can actually tighten the tailpipe clamps up a bit, but still swivel the tailpipes up/down. Once you get them looking the way you want them, then do a final tighten of the clamps. I've found you get your best alignment when you adjust the tailpipes AFTER lowering the car to the ground.
Another tip; if you want to put exhaust tips on, you'll need to cut the angled slash cut off the tailpipes. This is easiest done (of course) when the tailpipes aren't put on yet. And you can get your best alignment for tips if you set up the tailpipes so the longest horizontal part of the tailpipes is PARALLEL with the ground.
My first cat-back, I didn't cut the slash off, or put tips on, until a year after having the catback. I had aligned the tailpipes so the slash cut was actually "up" a bit more. This put the horizontal (long part) of the tailpipes at a slight upward tilt. So, when I finally did put on tips, my tips were angled upward, and actually rubbed the bottom of the bumper. By then the pipes had taken such a set to the muffler that I couldn't swivel them down.
I hope all that made sense!
That whole tailpipe alignment thing would be pretty much the same for any cat-back you buy...
