antifreeze

How can i flush and get all the entifreeze out of my car? I know when i drain the radiator i get about 2 quarts but i know there is more in the engine. I want to compleatly flush my coolant out i have been using dexcool for about 5 years and it is starting to sludge so i want to go back to the green stuff.

I plan on takeing my radiator out and taking it to a shop to have it cleaned out for 5 bucks.

buy a $5 flush n fill kit atthe auto parts store and flush away. it gives you adapters so you cna hook a garden hose into the system and flush it out.

I like to reverse flow the heater core also to bow any crap out.

I have some prestone coolant cleaner you are susposto drain your system and clean it all out then put the stuff in fill it with water and drive with it in your car for a week or about 600 miles. Would just water cause me to overheat?

water should be fine. I have ran just water in several kinds of cars. Just doesn't work in the winter.

Water DOES WORK FINE BUT!
IT DOES CORRODE ALUMINUM PARTS!
I know, been trapped by a corroded timing chain cover!
In my Blazer I ran only water for years. While driving to work, I had Niagra Falls big time! Had to replace T-chain cover with new one!
I await to find my single final small cooling leak in Firebird to swap out the water & install 50-50 antifreeze (that is approved for aluminum).
I may try Water-Wetter, too.
Just add this stuff to water & instant antifreeze.
But will it work for aluminum cooling parts, too?
I have heard positive press about this stuff.
Drain your dirty stuff, now.
Fill car with water & that "cleaning agent". Go for long drive.
Upon home, drain radiator of what's there.
Fix/clean radiator, reinstall, then run water.
Drain radiator, add gallon of antifreeze to fill, top off radiator with water you'll be ok! That will work out to a 50/50 mix in end.

I just wana get rid of all that dexcool crap it even put sludge around my radiator cap. I almost wonder if it has anythign to do with my car wanting to overheat when i have my AC on. When i first got the car it never did it and now that i think about it it seems after i put dexcool in that it started to want to over heat. I have a place by my house that will clean out my radiator i took my firebirds radiator there and they cleaned it out checked it for leaks etc.

your not gonna rust or corrode your radiator in a week. Especially with other additives in it that are made to clean the system. And I bet since it made for that it has anti corrosives in it.

Though if you want to take it to a shop they can do the whole thing. Flush, fill and leak check. They can use better [harsher] chemicals for cleaning and are setup for disposing of them.
