Maf

i did a search and looked thorugh some posts but didn't notice any comments about this. Im away from my car for a few days due to exams and stuff, but I was wondering if are MAF sensors are screened, meaning is there a screen surrounding the actual sensor that may hurt air flow. This is just off the top of my head because I remember seeing a post before that suggested using a razor blade to cut the screening out....could have been a different forum...

Thanks,

Dave M.

I recall there being some sort of honeycomb screen in front on the sensor. I wouldn't recommend cutting it out. Whether it's for catching debris or straightening the air I don't know, but I doubt it would help too much and it might even hurt.

*** i hope it isn't for catching debris because that means my air filters are junk....but thanks for the info, I was hoping I wasn't a morron, but maybe someone else will catch this thread and let me know what happens when you cut it or if its even been done before.

You wouldn't think it would be for catching debris, but one time when I took a look at the MAF screen there was a few small particles stuck in it. Not sure how they got in there. Maybe the filter got something on the inside before it was put in.

Our frequency film MAFs are inaccurate without a straight airflow, hence the honeycomb screen. Removal is not reccomended.

Screw inaccuracy - if you remove the screens, you'll screw up the amount of air flowing vs fq signal given, and you'll need to rescale your maf tables in accordance.

Problem is, nobody seems to know what fq vs cfm there is, stock vs screens removed.
