Just swapping in a V8 is not the end all. Why not slap ina V10. It has more potential, so why settle for less. People say why mod a six when for the same amount of $$ you could get an 8 to go so must faster. Then you have to get the 8 first. There are some of us that can get scorer sweet setups. most caint. that adds $$$ overall. Then, heaven forbid, somepeople jsut don't want a v8 in their car. Or why get an old engine when LT/LS1s are out there, trhey make more power. What you do with your car is not going to exactly what someone else wants to do w/theirs.Everynow & then I still get asked "Why?" well the $200 answer shuts them up real quick.

back to topic:

Drew, how much did the overall setup cost, what is NOS's system now, & (mainly for those w/o juice yet) There's this to consider. Nice price.

hey Drew,
in an effort to keep up with some of my friends cars, I am seriously contemplating the bang for the buck, as well as the ability to change over to other engines, that a nitrous set up like yours affords me. this thread, up until it veered off topic, was very interesting to me, although I am still left with a few questions:

1) since you said it was a homebrew version of the universal efi kit, was there anything you added that would be more than what came with the universal kit?

2) are there any tips from your experience on how to go about purchasing/assembling/using a set up like yours? i was hoping to run a 75 shot max bc i've got a high mileage car also.

3) would the set up for a fiero work on our cars?

thanks for your time, any response would be appreciated...

oh, and br()bert, your v8 superiority argument is not needed... I already understand where you're coming from, and you'd be preaching to the choir (and wasting space) if you continued your argument (i plan on a v8 swap in the future of some kind)... i'm simply looking for a temporary alternative that would allow me to keep up with some of my friends...

way to go on the nitrous Drew...add some form of a cold air intake and a ported and polished intake and you might lose a couple more tenths...im not sure though...but it is a thought...and im sure with the cold air intake it'd sound pretty cool when that nos hits...

Its really hard to say because I bought the bottle and bunch of used parts from a coworker for about $100. Then I bought the nitrous and fuel solenoids new at work (employee discount). All the custom bracketry was fabricated from aluminum angle stock from the local hardware store. The braided lines were all new again purchased at work. The fogger nozzle and jets also came from work. All together I think I spent about $500 but I had a lot of parts left over.

NOS offers the same thing in a kit only the feed hoses aren't as long. I located the solenoids pretty far away from the fogger nozzle. I don't have the part number handy, but its a universal EFI wet kit.

1) The NOS kit is a little different. The feed lines are shorter cause their solenoids are closer to the fogger nozzle. Also I'm not running a fuel pressure safety switch, or a throttle microswitch. Both items just increase the safety by preventing the nitrous from being activated unless the engines at WOT and has good fuel pressure.

2) Buy a kit, add the parts you need, its cheaper in the long run. Used setups on ebay go pretty cheap. Don't activate the nitrous unless the engines at 2000rpm or better.

3) Probably, but its a dry setup. It would depend on the stock injectors to deliver the fuel to keep from running lean.

I think that addresses most of the questions...

I've used two bottles so far without any negative results. I'm probably not going to run the 3.1 on nitrous again since I'm putting in the V8 in about two weeks.

I'd like to use a MSD RPM window switch and an MSD 6AL to activate the nitrous automatically and to prevent the engine from over reving. Also with that setup, I'd have to put the microswitch back on the throttle body and remove the pushbutton from the shifter.

The nitrous setup was purchased to use on my Formula, and only went on the 3.1 to tide me over till the V8 swap, but now all the parts and tools have been collected to do the swap, so that's the end of it.
