Ah, finally, nice and quiet
Well, finally welded up my y-pipe crack yesterday. The pipe had cracked a few months back in the winter, and I threw some spot welds in there. Hit a raised manhole cover (stupid lowered car!!) and broke all the welds! The crack turned into a gaping hole.
The car was so loud it was embarassing... and I had to be very careful if I saw a cop- I'd have to take my foot off the gas and coast, and hope that I got far enough away from them so they wouldn't bother coming after me.
I had to cut off slivers of 1/16th inch steel (luckily I had some in the basement), and weld them in as filler. Finally everything's nice and quiet- and STRONG. That metal was pretty damn thin around the crack.
Damn I can't wait for those Pacesetter headers!!

way to go tom!!!
i too had an exhaust leak, found and fixed it today. there is a thing my dad said is probably a "preheater" that comes off the passenger side header, goes to a biscut sised steel thingie and then has a hose (metal hose) going to the TB. anyway, where this thing mounts the the header it was so loose i could have fit a quarter in there. usually it sat flush, only opend up when i wiggled it. all tight now though.
but it got me to wondering? i thought cold air was better, why would we want to heat up the air before it went into the engine? if this thing was rmoved would i see a performance gain?i am all about cheap/free mods that gain performance. or at least get usless crap out from under my hood
two examples are tb coolent bypass and cruise control delete.
