Well i was just guessing since my car has that pathetic 85 mph speedo!! Well that doesnt work now anyway. The v8 trans is vss or some crap, i forget. I know when I got on the highway it would wrap back around.

there's a tech article explaining how to do it. i almost did it to my old v-6 but never got around to it. i'd be scared to ever take it above 115mph just cause i dont know how much strain the engine could handle, but it'd be cool to tell people the switch on your dash turns your governor on and off.

i think the way the mod works is you splice an on/off switch into the governor wire. have it on, everything's normal, turn it off and the governor can't read the speed you're going, and therefore cant limit it.

edit: found tech article, only works for TBI cars though

I have an '87 with a different prom chip than stock. Have had the car as high as 132mph thats as fast as she would do (calculated off of rpms, gears and tire size- speedo is only 85) and have never hit a limiter.

The motor can handle it, there's no strain on it. Highest I hit was 137, clocked against a turbo volkswagon, via CB radio. I had an ADS superchip, my speedometer was "slow" (had larger tires- P255/70r15's- on the rear), and I had the B&M 4-3 kickdown kit (allows for high-speed in overdrive, keeps trans from downshifting to 3rd) installed on the trans. Either the ADS chip or the "slow" speedo might've kept me out of the speed limiter.

The VSS bypass switch will also work on MPFI, it's not just for TBI.

The ADS chip is long gone, the tires in the back are a normal size (P245/60r15), and I'm too old to go above 65 mph anymore. Hell I hit 70 and feel like I'm doing mach 1!
