Quick help with the belt

Hey guys, yesterday was my graduation and i was in kind of a hurry to get around so i was driving the car alittle harder than usual, after grad i went out and around to different places and had no problems with the car, parked it for thenight got in this morning and my power steering was gone, i was like great it didnt even squeek first. But then i got home and i forgot i had wanted to back in because i was worried about the power steering, and i put it in reverse backed up- alittle and noticed my belt laying in the driveway, i turned the car off and opened the hood, all i noticed was that my AC is alittle loose but the belt is relativily new looking, it has one little chung out of the one side of the belt (the side that isn't smooth, nothing that would make it fall of though i would think) well i read the little chart on the radiator that shows you how to put your belt back on an di put it back on right but i have alittle too much belt it seems. I checked a few times at the chart and i have it on correctly but it isnt working. Any ideas what is going on?
Thanks
Mitchell

I had lost the belt on a friend's Jeep Cherokee once. EVERYTHING was driven by the serpentine belt. A/C, steering pump, coolant pump, alternator, the works. I was like, "how come it's running hot, the steering sucks AND the battery gage is reading really low?" I popped the hood and found the belt had wrapped itself around the crank pulley and was pretty much shredded.

Is your tensioner working properly?

tensioner is the one between the alt, and w/p, diagonal waise. Rotate it clockwise to "shorten" the length.

Belt routing should be on the hood, or radiator housing cover.

Crank, to p/s, to ac, to um... then from alt, to smog, um.. mines not stock

i have a 3.1L but an 87 front end, the routing on the front end is wrong, i did it that way and the belt was really loose, so i just shifted around the water pump and the crank shaft and it fit perfect, everything still rotated the same way but i was just wondering if this is bad? thanks
