How do I set timing?

I just did a tune up on my 87 3.4 and was wondering how I would correctly set the timing on my car and what would I set it to? I have a timing light and everything but was talking to someone who said that there was some kind of connection you had to take off computerized cars in order to set tiing correctly.

Can anyone give me some step by step instructions on how to set timing?

P.S. Yes, I did try searching but didnt have any luck

Edit: Sorry about the duplicate post, I got an error the first time I tried to post it.

that connection would be for the spark timeing, but i'm not 100% sure that would apply to a 3.4L as i do not yet own one, i would imagine so though, and that would be a brown wire on the passenger side firewall, pokes (should be pokeing) out of the plastic shelding stuff somewhere near the blower motor, do a search for it "spark timeing" and you should be able to find it...
