AC Help
Well today I decided to work on my AC. B4 i could not get my clutch to spin even when hott wiring it, i tap on it today with a rubber malet. And when I hott wired it, it spun. So i bought the adapter and put in R34. I put it in on the evap canisiter (silver round one) where the plug was, is that the right place? Or does it go on the line running near the can with the plug? The adapter I had only fitted on the one on the can. So I jump the clutch again and had it spinning and started relaesing R34 into it. It only seemed to take half the can, which i know it should tak emore, but it was throwing cold air though. Then as it was filling plug in the clutch where it should be and it spun on its own. But was making a loud noise, like bearings, when reved seem to be less, also i noticed on the take when i revved it to about 2000 RPM it would jump from that to 1800 for some reason. The clutch started to smoke a little but but still turns and throws cold air. Put when i undid the valve, it all leak out, even when i took the adapter off, what is going on, any help would be great, I need it
Thanks

did it leak out of your canister? if so, you've probably got bad seals inside it allowing the air to freon to escape....and yes, ur sopposed to fill on the low side, which is located on the canister, the high pressure side is on the line, and it's a "no-no" to fill there (might blow up on ya). Last summer i had my compressor spinning, filled everything w/ 134, had cold air...guys pulled the engine to fix oil leak, compressor hasn't spun since, and i can't give it a charge.....also, the system seems to be evacuated because the canister has no "coldness" to it, not even when trying to get the A/C to blow......kinda sux but atleast summers almost over.

It leaks where that valve is, can't understand why though. The compressor does spin but makes a loud nouse, bearing i think, now I was told that there is a way to oil the clutch? How do you do that? Thanks guys, Right now when i turn on the ac, the clutch spins off and on, I think because of the levels of freon, but don't know, thanks for the help.

the clutch will do what's called a short cycle if the freon level isn't up to par...once the freon is filled to the correct PSI, the clutch will remain on as long as the A/C is switched to the "on" position.

A/C is very tricky when it comes to easy repairs. On my yellowmaro, my best friend was ebay. I bought a reman compressor for $40. I bought new hoses for $10. A retrofit kit was $34, and I bought a receiver/dryer for $34 from autozone. To flush the system, freon leak test, and evac with R134A was $56.
Point is, I replaced everything but the evaporator (the hardest), and the condensor myself for less than $120. When it comes to A/C, shop around, buy new or a warranteed rebuild. You will spend less money and have less maintainance.

The noise you are hearing is probally the A/C clucth going bad. Mine is doing the same thing right now. Makes a sound at idle but is ok at higher speeds. My A/C didnt work for a couple of years so I had it refilled and leak checked... Worked great for about a month. Then at idle it wouldnt cool and I got that sound. A/c still works fine when not stopped and summers almost over so I wount fix it till next summer. You can change out the clutch without even opening the system. Is the leak at the connection where you were refilling the system? If so the little valve might be a little stuck when you took off the refill hose. Just try to put it on and off to try to reseat it. Maybe spray it with a little WD-40 I dont think it will hurt since you will have positive pressure coming out anyways. Kinda like a tire valve stem when it leaks after filling or checking pressure. Good luck

Thanks guys, I went out and got a compressor from the junkyard, it is doing the same damn thing, and i even put R134 oil in it, and still nothing. Loud as heck, and seems to not run constantly even when out. The top of the compressor gets very hott, is that right? How do you just change the clutch and how much is that? Thanks guys
