OK new question....3.4
OK the 4.3L swap has been scrapped, hers a new question. How similar are the 3.1L to the 3.4L??
Are the parts inter-changable?If I buy a new 3.4 will the 3.1 parts fit her??
Really want a new engine the miles on the old one are soooo hi.Would like to stick with a V-6 because my mechanic says he can't put a V-8 in it because it was manufactured with a v-6 and him being a licensed repair shop isn't allowed to make the change and I just don't have the time, tools, garage or know how to do it myself.Just want my 92 RS to have a little more jump ya know.?
Any ideas on the 3.4 or 3.8???

do the 3.4. Compatability is good between the two, and following Karls' lead will make the 3.1 into 3.4 indesteguishable (sp?) 3.8/3800, well, that's a whole other story.

Thanx guy....right now I'm waiting on a reply from GM about the 3.4 and your info is VERY uplifting. My wife and I really love this car and want to turn it something we can call our own.The kid we bought it from wasn't taking care of it,so we aquired it at a fairly good price and me being 50 figure its gonna be my last project car.But I want to make it different from all the rest,ya know?
Once again....thanx.

Car: a car being parted out
Engine: blown up
Transmission: in peices
unbolt accessories, exhaust ect, remove 2.8/3.1. Install 3.4 reinstall all old parts.
Simple as that. all the same mountings, holes and parts. Just bigger Displacement.

You don't want the 3.4HT it is external ballance.
Try crate-engines.com and get an internal ballanced one.
The crate engine.com costs a little more but you will spend the money saved from the 3.4HT on external flywheel and damper.
Internal ballanced engines are better any way.
Your car engine is internaly ballanced you will have to buy stuff like fly wheel and damper.
You don't want to do a 3.8 unless you have a hole 3.8 car to pull stuff off. And having your own shop would help a lot.
