Motor mount question
Does anyone know factually (Meaning first hand experience) that the 60*V6 and V8 motor mount bolt the same positions to the K-member?
I'm looking to buy a tubular K-member made for a V8 car with motormount plates installed on it already. Need to know if I have to cut them off and refab new one. My problem is I have a MIG and can do steel, but not chromemoly. The guy can build me a heavier duty unit than the drag race setup, but his jig is onlyconfirmed for V8's- he doesn't know the V6 mounts positioning.

When I swapped my old 85 firebird from a 2.8 v-6 to a 327 v-8 I did not have to modify where the enige mounts went. There were several sets of holes for motor mounts 1 for a L-4 one for the v-6 and 1 for the v-8. It does suck to have to change the motor mounts position because there was only a 1 - 2 inch oval hole to work though to get the nut but with good use of a u-joint I got them (had to put tape on the u-joint to stiffen it up though. So yes it is interchangeable without modifing but they dont bolt in the exact same place.

Dream,
The info I am looking for is the exact potioning of the v8 mount onto the k-member as opposed to the v6 mount position on the k-member. I understand you say the hole positions are different, but are the actual positioning where they meet the face of the k-member different?- meaning are the v6 mounts higher and more towards the front? Etc?
The flat plate section on the aftermarket K-member has hole provisions for the v8 mounts. I am trying to figure if I can use that same small plate area (keep in mind were are talking about an aftermarket k-member, not the factory one) and just redrill some holes for the V6 mounts.
I will put this one more way to make it as clear as possible.
If you were to mount a v8 motor mount to the K and trace around it, then remove it and install a V6 motor mount and trace around it also, would they be positioned basically for the most part inside eachothers markings scribed on the k-member? if not, how far off are they (say form center of one scribe to the center of the other scribe)? I need to know if I have enough plating surface area on the aftermarket K incase the positioning is up, down or side to side- again, it is made specifically to the v8 mounts and not much extra material is there for lightness, unlike the factory K.
Thanks, Dean

The V6 mounts sit approx 2-3" BACK (toward the firewall) than the V8 mounts.
Just swapped a V6 to a V8, that's how I know.
