Where can I find out if a parts illegal

I live in California and I was summit racing adding parts to my cart to get a feel of how much it would be. Then i put my info in to checkout just to see shipping and hoping I wouldn't get nailed with the 8.25 tax . At the top of the screen it said some parts are illegal to california emissions, first I thought it was the dynomax cat. So i took it off and still got the same message

heres what I had

Dynomax Catback - Part # 17493
Dynomax Cat- 15735
Hypertech powerstat- HYP-1006
B&M Shiftkit-BMM-70239
MSD Ignition-6200
Spark Plug Wires-Accel 8879

if anyone can help it would be appreciated, sorry I have a lot of questions but this board has helped me a lot

It might be the powerstat but there is nothing there that would cause you a problem here.

They say that about everything. I bought carpet for my car from them and the guy on the phone had to give me the speech Saying some of the parts i may have purchased my not be used on a polution controled veachile in california and may not be 50 state legal. I had to laugh at that. I think it is more a legal thing to cover there ***.

when in doubt, contact the parts manufacturer to see if part is/needs to be **** C.A.R.B. certified.

Maybe the carpet was made 100% from lead and it added so much weight that it actually changed the fuel consumption.

If the exhaust system is factory replacement AFTER the catalytic convertor(s), it's usually 50 state legal. The only un-legal part might be the noise generated from the muffler.

To dig up California Air Resource Board's Executive Order (smog exempt) numbers, visit http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...es/amquery.php . That's how I found out Pacesetter's EO # for our headers.

Also, if a piece is just an aftermarket replacement "consumable", it should pass. That includes air filters, fuel filters, spark plug wires, distributor cap/rotor, etc. It wouldn't include spark coils, ignition boxes, camshafts, or catalytic convertors- THOSE you'll have to make sure are emissions legal. MSD gets EO #s for most of their streetable equipment.

Don't get the B&M Shift kit, buy the TransGo kit- the B&M kit can hurt your transmission. (And I'm a B&M fan!!) But anything with the trans is going to be legal, because it doesn't affect emissions. Same with suspension. If you change the rear gear in your axle, it might raise the emissions of your car and cause you to fail though.
