Gas Tank Question-Mechanical gas tank VS TBI gas tank
Hi All!
PERHAPS someone here knows this answer.
I am seeking to use a TBI GM issued electric fuel pump assembly (with new electric fuel pump, of course) in a gas tank that is used on a mechanical fuel pump vehicle.
Specifically
My 1985 S-10 Blazer.
Post 1986 S-10s then went to TBI.
Same story with the F Body. Some vehicles were mechanical, some were TBI & some were high pressure MPFI.
Did GM change fuel feed assemblies & stick electric fuel pumps in "same gas tank"?
Using the 3.4 the block in my Blazer, the engine has no provision for mechanical pump.
I am seeking to know, can I just drop 1985 BLAZER tank, swap the fuel tank feeds assembly, get going again?
IT IS EXTREMLY DIFFICULT to RELIABLY mount an external electric fuel pump on my 1985 Blazer.
In end, the most reliable, secure driving longevity answer seems do as GM did, put the electric pump in tank.
Not wanting to dump tank & "experiment". Want to drop, replace, keep going down road!
I already have the wiring & fuel feed solutions executed.
Now need to solve my current electric pump problems.
THANKS FOR IDEAS.
PS I know for the F BODY vehicles, gas tank was changed in the 1990 year due to increasing baffles internally on the MPFI vehicles.
Can I get "this lucky" with my 1985 Blazer 3.4 swap project?

It's thirdgen applicable, actually. If they didn't change the F-body fuel tank, they probably didn't change the S-10 fuel tank, and vice versa... but honestly, Karl, just reading a carb->TPI swap thread (of which there are hundreds) would answer your question to the best TGO can.

I gotta tell ya, I ALWAYS SEEM TO GET best, most intelligent answers on the V6 part of TGO.
PERHAPS I'M BIASED ABOUT US V6-ers!
You believe my "theory" is correct.
GM used same tank, different fuel feed assemblies, slipped inside same tank to accomplish necessary fuel feed solutions per each specific (carb/TBI/MPFI-FI) engine.
THANKS
Someone said, tho, about fuel gauge signal (tank fullness) may not be same for my current fuel gauge readings.

Got my Carter Electric Fuel Pump to work again.
I pulled it apart (a BIG selling point of the Carter Fuel Pump), found some fuel that dribbled outta outlet side of pump, put back together, damn Blazer starts/runs like a champ again.
The inside of the pump where are the vanes was spotless. I run a plastic clear filter prior to the pump, anyway.
The end solution certainly could/would be to mount a EFP in the current Blazer tank, using the TBI set up.
THANKS FOR ALL HELP-TIPS!!!
My Blazer swap project is in experimenting/making solutions phase before it is reliable road worthy.
Perhaps this will help anyone with a FBody 2.8 carb'd set up doing the 2.8->3.4 long block swap boogie!

Hey Karl,
Only thing I can suggest is checking GMpartsdirect or a dealer for the part no's for the fuel tanks. If the part no's for the tanks are the same, then I'd assume the pump will work.
Otherwise, just stick an inline electric fuel pump in.
I have to lock this since we had a complaint, but everyone feel free to PM Ked85 with any comments.
