Please help me figure out what i did

I just got done replaceing the gasket on my transmission and went to take it for a test drive. I was going throught he gears 1,2 D, OD at stoplights well at one i was doing about 45 and i heard a thunk and i dont know why but i had slammed it into park. It was in park for about 5 seconds while i trid to fgue out what the grinding sound i herd was and i realized i went way to far up. I continued my drive and now at low RPMS i hear a vibrating noise almsot sounded like where the CAT is but it wont make the nose in P or N when i rev it so im wonderning if it is my tranny. I tried a brake stand to see if it was my tranny mount and all seemd ok there. The tranny shifts fine still but its that vibrating sound that i hear now. Could i have some how killed my CAT or my Tranny.

I turned the car on yesturday and it was vibrating like hell in Park and in gear. Any ideas what may be causin this. I am in the middle of putting new plugs cap rotor on etc. I just dont get why all of the sudden its doing this i hope the tuneup will help. Tranny fluid looks fine as well as the oil. Any ideas?

if i am understanding this correctly and you did put the gear selector in Park while driving...you probably do hear some noises. putting the tranny in park while moving is never a good idea. putting it in reverse at 45 mph is never a good idea... only stay in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th (OD), or neutral while moving forwards!

I had my finger on the button pushing down and didnt realize it i ment for it to hit OD not P. Im more concerned why my car is vibrating like hell i am going to have to figure out each problem 1 step at a time. I am also going to reset the ECM.

you don't have to push the button to upshift...i think that they made it like that for a reason. your car is vibrating because you probably threw chunks of metal all over the place inside your tranny. you can try reseting the ECM but it won't do anything.

Ya it didnt help much its not as bad with new plugs but yes it does vibrate pretty nice in and out of gear still. I guess all i can do is wait for it to go and live with what i did. Unless somene has a fix for what i did besides saying get a new tranny.

if you don't want to get a new tranny, you will want to rebuild that one. And the sooner the better. It will only get worse as you drive and cost more.

Because it is now contaminated with junk, You will need a new torque convertor too, along with needing all the lines flushed well. Or you risk ruining the new one you put in.

You do not need to push the button to up shift. That button is only for putting it in reverse or park. As there is a safety lock out to stop that. But with the button pushed, you un-did your safety lock out.

Its time to park it for real this time.

Ive needed a new converter for a while. At least i knew i was going to need a new tranny before i did this when i pulled the pan the inside was coverd with the metel from the clutchs.

But why does my car vibrate like hell even in park now thats what i cant figure out. This is my daily driver and currently only car i have that is up and running.

Cause most likley you cracked the giant bell in the trany in half or close to it. Which is now way out of balance.

I did a similar thing to the tranny in my old 79 duster. Had the TV cable tweaked so it down shifted quicker but also raised my line pressure. Came around a cornor hot and cracked my bell in half.

Car acted like the rear end gears were sheered off. It drove but was loud and shakey.

It was neat when I took the tranny apart.

Maybe you could save a few buck it you switch to a stick.
Used T5 is only $100-150 at most places. clutch parts new another $150, pedals and other stuff $100

A new or rebuilt tranny is gonna be $900+
flushing the sytem and a new TQ another $300+

I would agree with Gumby one the possbilty that you cracked the drum. The will cause a bad vibration. Tranny would have to be removed and torn apart to fix it if thats the case.

Would that cause the vibration in park as well?

Yea, just cause the car is not moving, doesn't mean the tranny isn't moving inside. It just won't move the car until you put it in gear or have the rpms up high enough for the TQ stall speed.

If the motor is running. parts in the tranny are too. Only in a stick with the clutch engaged will the tranny parts not move.

Its a giant hunk of steel inside your tranny, Almost as big as the tranny. A big bell or drum shape. I bet your cracked it almost in half. or lost a big chunk of it.

A tranny should not need rebuilt so often. I bet the shop wasn't flushing out the system right or kept using old contaminated parts.

That or you like putting the car in reverse or park while doing 50. hehehe JK

Ya each time it went in the past it would shift 1-2 then it would just rev up and not shift into 3rd and 4th. The palce tried not to honor the warranty but i had to argue thye thoght becasue i was young i was raceing and makeing it brake which honestly was not true no tranny should die in 5,000 miles after a rebuild.

On one of my trannys my Camaro had (i've gone through 3 of em). When I blew the 1st one my saftey stop thing apperantly was broken and I knocked the shifter into reverse (on accedent) @ about 25Mph I heard a nasty grinding noise and the car shut off well a few days later the tranny was completely shot. When I took it out, apperanty what happend is part of my TQ converter broke off in many shap pieces and then went all through the tranny. The TQ converter broke where the Trans shaft goes into it.
Good luck!
The 700-R4 is in more than just the camaros and firebirds. Its in 2.8 S-10's and Blazers I got my tranny I have now outta S-10 and they charged me 150 bucks less because they thought they where different Trannys. But there Idenetical.
