Don’t know where to post this, since I have a stock v6 (+ MSD ignition\blaster coil)…
My trans is leaking. When I get under my car it is so dirty, I can’t see where the leak actually is. How can I degrease, wash the undercarriage without damaging\hurting anything? What precautions do I need to take? Does anything need to be covered? And since I’m doing that, I may as well do the engine bay too. Same questions for that too.

I would just go down there with some rags wipe everything down it wil get all the grime off. Then if you want go to a wash it your self car wash and spray under the car with there pressure hose. While your at it midas well clean your engine.

Yup, that or brakecleaner. That's how I did mine. Follow it up with some gloss black enamel

 

I would highly suggest using black Epoxy paint (Appliance paint) It is much more durable for the undercarraige.

Also, Easyoff oven cleaner will remove anodizing so use caution on anything anodized.

 

Oven cleaner works good. Though it can and will eat paint. Its great for striping clear coat off aluminum.

Krylon sell a farm equipment paint in a spray can that is very durable.

 

where is this sold? I've never heard of it.

 

Seen it at walmart n andersons. Trying to find krylon fusion. Seams people have fusion. but only carry blue green n black and don't bother with the other 18 colors???

Oven cleaner takes off the undercoating?? Cool. I used Eastwood's "UnderGone" undercoat removal spray; it worked pretty damn good, but oven cleaner is easier to get!

If you've got an automatic trans (not sure about manual transmissions but I think the same applies), they've got a plastic vent tube at the very top of the trans case- about where your shifter stick is. You shouldn't get water in that.

The axle also has a plastic vent tube, sticking straight up towards the sky, out of the "front side" of the diff case on the passenger side. You don't want water in there either, but it's got a nifty little cap on it to prevent splash.

That's one of the many reasons you don't want a flood car... water can get into the rear axle and transmission from their case vents.

I can't stand working on filthy oil dripping sludge cars... especially since I'm used to my "bone dry" engine bay. Yick.

 

oven cleaner strips its great, and its cheap.

thats why ive used it
