Actually you can hurt the car by letting it idle for that long... besides carbon building up, oil pressure won't be as high as it could be, and carbon monoxide can build up and kill ya.
But aside from driving around until it's almost emtpy, you can also drain it using the in-tank pump. Gotta do it outside, though!!!
1. Take a long 20 foot piece of wire. Shove one end into the ALDL connector's pin "G", the fuel pump test slot. Pop your hood and drag the other end of the wire to the front of the car.
2. Disconnect fuel tank pipe at fuel filter inlet. Stick a scrap of 1/2" heater hose over the dripping tank pipe, and put the other end into a gas can.
3. REMEMBER THAT WE'RE DOING THIS OUTSIDE, SO YOU CAN: Attach the other end of that wire to the + terminal of your battery. THIS WILL CAUSE A SPARK SO YOU'D BETTER BE OUTSIDE! This makes the fuel pump run constantly. It'll drain your tank.
4. Keep a watch on the gas can so it doesn't overflow. If it gets close to the top, disconnect your wire NEAR THE BATTERY to keep the spark furthest away from the gas!
5. If your pump isn't bad, DON'T let the tank run dry. Occasionally flip your ignition key to "on" to check the fuel gauge. If you let the tank run dry, you'll burn up your fuel pump!! Then you'll have to drop the tank!
Just curious; why are you draining the tank?
