Hard start sometimes

What would cause the engine to start about instantly most of the time, and then every once in a while need to be cranked forever (well, about 5-8 seconds) to start?

The starter sounds the same to me every time, but could this be caused by a bad starter? I'm pretty sure mine's on its way out.

Mine also seemes to do that sometimes, i highly doubt its the starter if its spinning the same speed each time. It only does this in the morning when i first start it, weird!

When does the fuel pump prime???

A faulty or bad fuel relay will make the car reverts to the oil psi switch. and not till 7psi will the pump prime. Fuel pressure doesn't hold forever or long. but sometime you have enough fuel to fire right off or you gotta crank it a min to get oil psi, to get fuel psi.

my system is faulty. New relay n stuff. Still don't prime the pump till I hit 7 psi. and so I leave it that way. Its not that big a deal and just means you got some oil flowing before it starts. Not really a bad idea.
