2.8 computer, Treasure or Garbage?

2.8 computer, Treasure or Garbage?
Some guy gave me the computer processor for a 2.8 f-body i dont really want it but was wondering if it would work for any V6 thirdgen and how can i tell if it works i heard that static eletricity e.i. touch it with your hand fries the computer .

He gave you the chip itself, or the ECM (silver box)? If he gave you the entire ECM, just don't touch the connectors. Touching the silver box itself is OK. But if he gave you the chip, well, I don't know what you'd do with it, but don't touch the pins.

the guy got this for a camaro for like (He says) $1000 brand new for his wife car that needed it to pass emissions then a couple thousand miles later she wreck it and he grabbed it. So i all i can tell you about the year is between 85 and 89 since i came from a 2.8. but that about the only info on it

ECM's don't cost to much for used ones,I think I can get them at the local u-pull it wrecking yards for about $25-$30.
You need to know what year it is,auto or 5 speed trans,carb or injected.
