Scroll down to the "riddle me this" post, 'project: 85 2.8 bird' has a good photo of a 3.4 without a/c and smog..

does the waterpump pulley rotate the same direction, counter clockwise, like the 3.4 does??? IIRC, the v-belt equiped 85 2.8 roataed clockwise, but not sure how the serp only 2.8s went. Yeah, gotta stir up som estuff on a Sunday.

Yup! CCW water pump. But the tensioner is up by the alternator, and the power steering pump is lower. If you delete a/c you need an a/c delete pulley or a really short belt that keeps the tensioner up high enough for the belt to clear the water pump on the it's way to the PS pump, or fab a bracket to raise the PS pump.

bru thats what i did. i got a 80.5" belt and she just snuck on. there is maybe less that a 1/4" between the power steering and the water pump. i do see that the ps pump bracket has two different holes in it so if i put it to the other bolt hole it will tilt it a little and raise it a bit more. not so sure if its going on the road right now. got damn its just started snowing about an hour ago here.

I just took a good look at the decal for the drive belt routing. This is exactly what it shows for no A/C. Now we know what size belt to use.
