92 RS, now clunking noise

After replacing the ICM....I took the car for test drive. Noticed/felt a clunking noise from under car, seemed pretty severe. My son said its been doing in for while. I did some searching on these boards, and did some checking as previous posts said. I lifted tranny....mount seems to be intact....the trailing arm is secure. Only thing I noticed was....there is a bracket mounted to tranny, back where driveshaft goes in, it has a rubber that is connected to cat converter...the rubber is broke, and there is a shinny spot on bottom of car just above it (must be from movement). Could the clunking be exhaust system moving.....or is there something else I should look for? Also...is that bracket and rubber a dealer part, or parts store item.
Again...thanks in advance for any help.
Steve

push on the exhaust sometime when its cold and see if you can make it have contact.

Could be a front motor mount broken allowing engine/trans/exhaust assy to rotate and make contact.

That is not a commen asked for part, so go try the dealer, or a pull it yourself salvage yard to see if you can get one.

About the easiest thing ya can do is go to dealer and ask for a line art print out illustration of the tranny area.
And also parts listing with parts numbers.
Back to your car & check off what could be problem areas & the cost for the part & ease of installation. That should cure the thumping noise.
Most mounts are "dealer item" but also many are common parts stores and some are high performance polyurathane.
For even more simple diagnoisis, bring it to a shop, toss it on lift & have a look see using a pry bar to "duplicate" the thumps.
What tends to go on our cars is the auto tranny mount. Mine in rubber have cost me $7 each time. I've replaced two so far.
Your descrition looks/sounds similar, but different. The dealer parts counter illustration really clears up what is down there, without greasy fingers.
Buy the dealer parts counter guy a soda for his help.
