lean? or just crappy plugs...
ok..ive had a tapping lifter or something under my hood for a good 8 months...right after i replaced my plugs when i got the car.....with autolites. so..when i got new wires, cap rotor...i decieded to go with ac delco everything, including spark plugs...after replaceing it all i saw i had 3 white plugs. the one on the 1st cyl was REAL white..even had a small nick in it. we gapped em 2 40 it looked like last time. this time, 45. the one real bad plug basically had no gap on it...my gapper goes to 20. and it was a struggle to get it 2 fit there! so..could i be running lean cuz i did have a few bad lookin plugs. i had a bubble in my coolant lines a few months back. it got up 2 240 at one point. other than that never higher than 220. it has a 180 stat in it. if im running lean what could it be. i ran a search already but...i didnt see much. please help if u know anything about why id had a bad plug like that one or how i could be running lean...thanx

only time i have had lifters tap is when the rocker arm was not adujusted to where it needed to be, or the lifter was either bad, or the oil hole in it was pluged so no oil.
The rocker arm thing requires taking the valve cover off and checking all the rockers to make sure they are were needed. to check the lifters the intake has to come off... and everything loosened up.. if you have to go that far i would just buy some new lifters for it, and the tightenen the roackers where they need to be

try an engine flush with an oil change, and put some marvel mystery oil in with the new oil. may stop the tapping, and hell youll have to do an oil change sooner or later so just do it then. wont cost you more than 10$ and it may fix your problem.

Np. I have had to deal with this problem on two of my camaros. 1st one was the lifter was bad (center spring retainer in it was gone and bottom of the actual lifter was missing so it was not working at all and the rocker was tappin the pushrod up and down...) Second one i have not figured out yet, since it started about a month ago on my 84 Z after i had a local valvoline shop change the oil and do flushes on everything.
