Thermostat

As far as I know and have read there is a gasket that goes around the thermostat, the parts store argues everytime I ask for the gasket that I need an o-ring, and I tell them time and time again "Your an idiot, it's a gasket." Am I right or am I the idiot?

This is the thermostat seal in the case you are talking about this instead of the thermostat housing gasket

I told him to look into the felpro intake gasket set and locate the thermostat GASKET to see and he said all he "ever works on is 3.1 and 2.8's and he know's them better then anyone." I knew it was a gasket though, just doesn't seem like the oring would do a friggin thing. Thanks guys.
