ONLY DOWN SIDE TO THAT IS
The axle rises and the car will eventually lift.
IF that situation works OK have at it.
And yep MAKE SURE the axle is secured in jack "pocket".
PS Use jack stands, too.......and watch out for that balancing act that's gonna occur.

I do it to mine whenever I rotate the tires. I lift the front end, put it on jackstands, then use the jack under the difff. With 3 points on the ground, as long as everything is secure, then you won't have to worry about it comming off and falling.

millions of times problem free, however NEVER work on a car while suported by a hydrolic jack alone. i used to do it "to grab that bolt real quick" or "just need to look at somthing real fast" untill i had a jack ( a nice jack too) all of the sudden start dropping a little quick. i went in the house fore a cola, came out and the jeep i was working on was resting on the brake drums! (in this instance i was not working unter the jeep, it was a brake job, the jacks just put it at a mor convenient height.)

When it comes to jacks dont get the 30 dollar ones the one i used to have the weels would aways come off scared the hell outta me when i was under the car. Then i began to use jackstands for V-Day my G/F got me a almunium craftsmen jack very very nice jack and you dont have to pump it as much to jack up the car i think i only need to pupit 4 times and it will be as high as it will go.
