2.8 carb block to FI block, questions
Hey guys,
I'm getting ready to drop a 1988 FI 2.8 block and heads into a 1982 Camaro, and intended on keeping the carbureted setup. I was told on this forum a while back that the blocks are compatible with the only exception being the fuel pump port being absent from the MPFI block.
However, looking between the 1982 motor and the 1988, I'm wondering: will I be able to switch the 1988 motor from a serpentine belt system to the 1982 V-belt setup? I'd leave the serpentine setup if it weren't for the different alternators between the two. But I can't quite tell just yet if the accessory mounting brackets will be interchangeable between the two motors or not. Will all of the mounting brackets transfer from block to block?

You need to change the timing chain cover as well, due to the reverse rotation water pump. The bolt holes in the end of the heads are the same.
You could always just swap the pulleys between the alternators, or change the one plug that needs to be changed to update the alternator.
Go.
