EGR & custom upper plenum
Taking my upper plenum off and then milling down my lower plenum, porting it and making a custom upper. Do I need the EGR or can I just hack it off or route it somewhere else.. dont really want it but I heard if removed you run the risk of melting your pistons??

it helps stabilize your cylinder temps.
Also recirc's fuel rich gases.
Will it do any real damage? no.
COULD you see some drivibility issues? maybe.
That and the constant SES light... that alone would annoy the hell outta me.

Hmm...what year is your car? 2.8 so you should have the vacuum controlled EGR, but I'm not sure when they changed it.
The light only comes on if you have the electronic EGR (disabled). The ones with the vacuum hose on them won't trip the SES, ecu doesn't know if it is working or not.
If you don't have to worry about emissions and having it look stock, just take it off and block off the hole on the exhaust manifold, and cap the vacuum line.
I had to leave mine on 'cause of the "visual, emissions equipment" inspection, but it is blocked off at the plenum.
Haven't noticed any problems (9500 miles).

the ECU will throw a code for the vacume EGR mine does all the time cause the one in my dont work and when ever i check codes the only one i get is the friggin EGR code also mine has a t off of the line from the solenoid to the EGR valve that has a sensor attached to it. the ECU will also look for a drop i exhaust temps at the same time it command EGR if it dont see that it will throw a code. well thats what my book says but it could be wrong. wouldnt be the first time.
