Strong smell of gas, car running like crap

When ever I stat my car I get a really strong smell of gas and more recently whenever I accelerate, idle or anything else. My car just seems to be running worse and worse. When ever I accelerate I hear a thump in the front in I think its the shocks? Any ideas of what going on or ways to fix it?

Aside from the injectors and fuel lines, you might want to check out the shrader (sp?) valve. On my mom's 3.1, it wouldn't seal from time to time and because the cap was missing, the gas would leak . In case you don't know where it is, look at top of the motor between the rear of the plenum and the distributor (on the fuel rail I believe). The valve might be exposed but should have a cap (silver in apperance). If it's leaking, a cap would be a temporary fix, but you can get the valve through GM. I don't recall the part number but I think you have to get it through a small kit (you can't get the valve alone ).

Another area to look is to check the purge canister (black cylinder shape container located on the opposite side of the battery). Check the hoses running to and from it.

Another area could be somewhere on the tank, where the filler neck attaches to the tank, or that valve that vent's the tank (looks like a white saucer with one line going to it near the tank). I think that vent valve is located near the filler neck mounting point.

As for the "thump", your tranny mount might be fractured or loose.

Pull the top off of your fuel pressure regulator; there is a rubber diaphragm under the cap, and you'll probably find a hole in it. Even the slightest hole here will cause a massive rich condition, as much of the fuel that would normally be forced into the return line is now going into the engine. If you can't find a new diaphragm locally, get a Holley Adjustable fuel pressure regulator for a TPI application; they fit and work fine.

try getting your hands dirty and actually pick some stuff apart and INSPECT the above mentioned things.

Thats what they say, you can't get it anymore.

If mine was bad, I would just disable it / block the flow of fuel to it.

No gas, no work.
