Is this weird or what?

I had posted different topics on my voltage gauge being at 13 volts or a little less. So, recently I has advanced my timing to about 14 degrees I think to give it a little pep even though it might screw my gas mileage. The weird part is after I advanced the timing, my volt gauge reads a strong 14 volts EASY even with the headlights on which prior to that the gauge would drop BELOW 13 volts. Is there a connection with all this. Perhaps in the distributor or wiring. I know the volt gauge is still strong and steady above 13 volts.
