and they are a serious pain to install.

yes, but so would the new ones, and they actually come with a "Y" pipe too...

pacesetter has started making them. They come with a y pipe that goes to the stock converter location.

No, those do not have a y pipe. It is a custom project, and quite a PITA.

i have a set verry similar to the ones that you are talking about. the air pump has to come off and some other minor stuff. they are not really that hard to put on, i can get mine off and back on inside of an hour, but the bottom bolts are a pain, cause you can only get a wrench on them. they work well. i have not had a problem except for the driver's side cause it sits really close to the subframe rail. if you don't live in a really strict state like california, you should be fine.
