fuel pressure/pump question

ok, been diagnosing my car still. I have a fairly nice sunday coming up so I can drop the tank.

I see at idle, my car is getting 34psi. If I rev it up, needle goes up to 38-40'ish and starts twitching like a crack head needing a hit.

I feel this is my problem, it should be a steady rise correct? how high should it get?

So, is this:
A. Debris in my tank partly clogging the pump
B. Bad fuel pump
C. Some A with B also.

Basically, I dont want to get in the middle of this, and find I need another part. I want to go grab all parts at once, cause I sure dont want to have to drop the tank AGAIN.

Hmm....my Chilton manual says that when turning the ignition to the on position, fuel pressure should be between 40 and 47 psi and that the ignition switch may have to be cycled more than once to gain max pressure

When you start the engine, fuel pressure should decrease about 3 - 10 psi at idle. Doesn't say anything about revving it up though.

This is from the Chilton manual BTW so this is apaprently the specs for V-6 AND V-8 engines???

Just me, but if that's the original fuel pump or if it's kinda old....I'd change it before putting everything back together. Just me though.....me, and my not wanting to remove a tank again should the pump fail because I would be to lazy to, self lol

The pump pressure is fine. I routinly see this from many cars. The bouncing needle is just a function of the injectors opening and the FPR releasing back to the tank.

There has to be something wrong with your pump from all the crap it let into your fuel line and filter. Just chop the hole in the back seat and remove the sucker. Fix the hole with a nice access cover later.

your just beating around the bush on this one while you try to avoid pulling the tank, so don't pull it. Cut an access hole like GM should have. Which they finally did in 2001, then cancled the line.

I'm kinda thinking same thing.. with all the crap thats been sucked thru the pump, very likely something is wrong.

It was replaced 2-3 years ago, but with a cheap brand.

I will not cut a hole in the floor, I have dropped the tank before, I'll do it again. I have the means and tools to do it right, I will do it right. Thats not saying I like doing it.

Just like if/when I ever paint the car, its getting totally disassembled, painted, then back together.
