spark plugs taking a gas bath
Well it's been awhile since I was here,its good to be back!!!It's winter time where I live and my gremlins are back and in full force.It can get pretty cold here and a batteries life can be short.The problem is that my 2.8l mpfi Firebird('87),has what appears to be a flooding problem.
Here is a typical day,walk out to car,get in, put key in ignition switch,turn to run,hear fuel pump energize, wait till it stops,turn key to start,engine cranks.......and cranks.........and cranks........are you getting the picture yet?Turn key off ,engine still cranking.....yupp.......key in the off position but engine continues cranking.Once engine stops,get out, lift hood, pull spark plugs and they look like they've been taking a bath in gas!
The starter is new,and the cranking time is about 5-7 seconds; battery was fully charged over night,this problem is such that when or I should IF the car starts,when the day is done,I remove the battery and bring it in the house and put it on the charger to keep it ready for the next day!
Summertime the problem isn't as bad although it can be b***ch,to start at times.Sometimes it cranks over great,sometimes it struggles to the point where i begin to cry for it.
Any ideas

87 = MAF
MAF = cold start injector
Check the CSI
As for the cranking, your ignition switch (the electrical side) is probably broken

also clear flood mode is activated by pressing the gas all the way down when you crank. and try just starting it up right away without waiting for the fuel pump to do its thing. the CSI is probably just spewing fuel that whole time.
