steps on setting timing
I would like to kno from start to finish how to set the timing to 15 or whatever is the best for performance i dont mind running 93 octane. I will be using a timing light of course anybody got pictures of the timing tabs and which lines are for what degrees? Also my friend said he got like 2-3hp from doing this, better gas mileage, and better throttle response on his LO3 will this be the same on the LHO?

I think 15 is a bit much, but you need to adjust it to your engine, driving style, and gas you run.
How to adjust your timing is shurly already been wrote up here.

Anything above 13* the motor will start to fall on its face in higher RPM power. If the motor is fairly stock (exhaust, pullies, TB, fuelpressure, etc..) then you will gain some bottom end on14* since it will not yeild power higher than about 4800.

i would like to set it for some better gas mileage and performance. So i should set it at 13 for the best results? On advanced to 13 should I run 93 octane?
You would feel more of a difference driving on a colder day with a strong tailwind then you will ever feel from adjusting your timing. 2-3hp? If you can feel less than 15hp your butt is far more sensitive than mine.
If you move the distributor, you had better plan on replacing the distributor shaft O-ring gasket. If it tears you'll have a nice oil leak on your hands.
Setting the timing on a V6 is exactly like a V8, take a look around for steps. Only catch is the #1 plug wire is on the passengers side, all the way at the front on a 3.1. 10* is stock, go higher at your own risk. If you hear it ping back off the timing. Keep in mind if you advance it too far you'll burn a bunch of really nice holes in your pistons.
