Idiot light

Does the idiot light use a 1 wire connector or a 2 wire connector? I have checked my car in every place suggested for a fan switch Pass side head in the rear? Nope just a plug, in the intake with the CTS? nope its just a 2wire, in the drivers side head at the front? thought that was where the idiot light switch was so i changed it for a sending unit for a gauge. I have let the car go to 240* once on the gauge to see if the fan would turn on Nope no go. I have been running with the AC pressure switch unpluged to force the car into failsafe mode with the fan running all the time and since it does activate the fan i am shure the ECU is working properly. My real question is does the Idiot light switch also control the fan? i dont see how but its the last thing i can think of.

Your post is confusing somewhat. I have a V8 camaro and I don't think the check engine light has anything to do with the fan. On my V8 the fan switch is on the P/S between the last two plugs. Just one wire. If you can find it, pull the wire off and ground it to ground with the ignition in the on position and the fan should come on. If not I would replace the fan switch.

SC camaros did not have a gauge but a "Idiot light" which comes on if your are overheating your car it is not the SES light but takes the place of a gauge. It should be run off of a switch in the drivers side head on the 2.8l so i took that out and changed it to a sender for a gauge. what i was asking is why the ECU will turn the fan on when i have the AC pressure switch unpluged but if i plug it back in it will not activate the fan. I have checked all the places that people have mentioned a fan switch but my car does not have any wires in the engine bay that are not connected, i have had 2 mechanics, myself, my bro, and my dad have all thoughly looked for any such wiring and have found none But the car will still go to 230* to 240* and the fan will not turn on. What is the fan switch sisted in the chiltons manual and at oreilly's and on GMpartsdirect? i dont even have any loose unconnected wiring in any of the possible install places.

What about the fan relays. I have 3 relays on the d/s firewall. One is for the fuel pump, 1 for the fan and I don't remember the other. Try switching the relays around and see what happens. Or use a test light on the fan relay and ground the other end of the test light and see if the fan works.
