So now what?

So I finally took my car into a shop to have my service engine soon light checked out......

Well, they told me that they put it on two different diagnostic systems, and they can't figure out why it is throwing a code 43.

I have always taken my cars to this shop, so I seriously doubt that they are messing around with me on this one.

They told me that it's either the wiring or the computer. So is there an easy way to fix this? Should I trust a junk yard computer?

Help me out on this one, guys.........

You could try a junkyard ECM, but I doubt that'll solve your problem.

If it's intermittant then you have a bad connection somewhere in the wiring. First place I would start is the EST connector. The latch tends to break off and the rubber inside doesn't always hold the connection real well.

i bet the problem is in the wiring back to the ECM somwhere. You'll have to check out the Tan/Blk wire all the way back to the ECM to make sure that you have continuity when you shake the harness.

Good luck,
Jeff

some things i would look at are the knock sensor pig tail, after a few years of use they get to where they fit loose, also check the knock sensor where the connctor plugs into it at for corrosion.
if it looks good so far, with the motor cold, loosen the knock sensor about 1 turn or so & then tighten it back up, the sensor may have a poor ground to the block.

I'll try that tomorrow when I get a chance, if it isn't too cold. I also heard somewhere that the Electronic Spark Control module could be to blame. Where exactly is that at? And is there a way to test it? Thanks guys

Nope, it's still a 1991 Firebird with the same 3.1 V6 with the same 180,000 miles on it..... I'm just trying to squeeze a little more miles out of it before I get fed up with it and yank it out.....

Where is the EST connector? I do have a broken clip on one of my connectors, but I don't know what it is for....
