fuel pump staying on, wont start

Car: 1991 Firebird
Engine: 3.1 V6
Transmission: Auto
fuel pump staying on, wont start

im having problems with my car starting (91 v6 3.1) when i try and start my car she cranks for a few seconds but wont turn over, then i hear my fuel pump running for 20 seconds or so after trying to starts, i went under and also smelled gas, ne ideas as to what my problem is??

Well, the fuel pump is supposed to run until proper pressure builds up. If you have a leak, that can take longer... If i were you, i would check for spark, then check your fuel pressure.
