2.8 shift kit?
hi i have a 87 chevy camaro and was wondering what kind of mods i can make to increase power and speed. i also was wondering if they sold a speedo that read more than 85mph that would fit in stock location.

Quick little tidbit of advice, do search, even if it's a manual search since I know the search function wasn't working right on this site not to long ago. This question is asked more often then Paris Hilton gets posted on the internet having sexorz.

As far as a shift kit goes, you can use any shift kit meant for a v8 700r4. Internally, our v6 700r4 and v8 700r4 are "99%" the same- the pieces that are different would never get touched for a shift kit. So get one meant for a 700r4 and you're all set. The TransGo is more expensive, but it'll help the tranny live longer- that extra $80 bux now is better than spending $1500 on a new trans later!
And for speedometers, some guys on the Apperance forum have made aftermarket speedometers fit in their dashboard. But to keep a stock looking speedometer, you're probably going to have to put a junkyard gauge panel in. Your problem is you'll need to fit a newer panel into your '87, since it was a federal law in the 80's that no speedo should go past 85 mph.
The 1987 Camaro GM Service Manual (from http://www.helminc.com ) should tell you everything about your current gauge cluster.

u can use a cluster out of a v8 car that goes to 115mph or 145 mph,i did that in my rs(used 145mph cluster out of an 87 iroc) except the v8 tach will not read right in the v6 car
tomp what year did that stop cause camaros could be goten with 115 or 145 mph speedos/clusters

Yeah, Dave, I'm not sure; you could probably do a search on google.com for something like 85 mph speedometer federal?
Well, I was curious, so I did the search on google, and found thirdgen.org! (laughs) I should've thought to search here first- the message was in the history & restoration forum. Anyway, see: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/hist...d_post_2852701
So I guess it was dropped in '85... but looks like I was right on my guess that GM just kept using their stockpile of 85 mph speedometers in the non-hi-performance f-bodies, rather than throw them all out, until '88.
