I have a 1984 bird with the 2.8l, carb and when i start it its rpms r at 600rpms. then when the car reaches full temp(200f) the rpms raise too 1000rpms. Is this normal for this engine or is there a problem with it? Also what is the normal oil pressure 4 these engines when its at full temp.(on the stock oil gauge) please let me know if u know anything about this. thanx

im not definatly shure but all the engines i have ever seen have always droped in RPM when they warmed up. most not nearly as much as these V6s do but some of them do. my car does the exact oposite. start jumps to 1000 then after about 20-30 seconds it slows to 600 and stays there for there rest of the time till the car is shut off. I have MPFI so mabe that makes a difference but i really dont think it does.

It should be at fast idle on cold start after you set the choke and then slow down once the engine is warm and the choke is open.

First off, make sure the choke is working properly.

Then put the carb on the top step of the fast idle cam. Then turn the screw until you have reached the fast idle spec that should be on the underhood emissions label.

Then make sure the carb is off the fast idle cam and set the base idle speed.

This should help you out a little.

cold starts i get 60+ oil psi, idling about 30 psi warm, but all around cruising/highway i get 40-45 psi.

Ill try this out this weekend, i was afraid if i tampered with the idleing it may mess things up. thanx 4 the help.

if u wanna raise ur oilpressure,
get engine oil cooler,
and use thicker oil than 10-30..
works great.
