fuel injector question
so I've read couple threads, and
i already found ppl trying out accel fuel injectors.
I have a 91 camaro RS 3.1,
with almost 190,000 still runnin pretty good.
anyways I do want all my injectors replaced,
and Im getting accel fuel injectors.
I am thinking of 17lb or 19lb
hoping to get a little more power but Im not sure
more fuel means more power?
my main question is that I read that u need to "re-tune" your ECM after changing injector size.
is this by definiton just resetting ur ECM
by disconnecting battery for 30min and just
drive on idle for 30min or something?
if not what is the process of retuning an ECM?
any tip is apprciated besides "do some search" caz
I did!
thanku

I've never tried any performance stuff on my v6 camaro never made sense, but i have a 90 Talon TSi, and I've upgraded the injectors to Evo injectors. Adding the more fuel doesn't give you any horsepower, the combination of more air and fuel will. The more fuel just makes it safer to add more air thus producing more power. As for the ECM question, I don't have an answer unfortunately as I stated previously, I've never bothered with any performance of the Camaro.

cool.
but even if u have no extra air induction, u still use
more fuel if ur using higher lbs right?
lets say i use a 19lb injector, and everything else is stock..
i wont have extra power, but ill just use
more gas.. is that right>?

Using 19#/hr injectors will increase the fuel delivery by over 20%. The plugs will foul, the engine will run terrible, and you will kick yourself for wasting your money.
To tune your ECM for the larger injectors will need to get some free software to change the BIN and data log. Then purchase some hardware to Flash a new PROM. There is a hac along with a definition file for your ECM/Mask ('7730/$88). then it is just a matter of taking to time to learn the ropes.
Now, if all you want are better injectors (which makes sense), get some Bosch injectors. Can junkyard them or get them from LinderTech. He sells the correct ones that will drop in without requiring any tuning.
Here are the app's (Ford's) that use the injectors you need:
Flow PSI Resist Mfg. Part Color Application
1.76 (14) 33 14.50 Bosch E67C-AB Gray 1986 2.9L, 3.0L
1.76 (14) 33 14.50 Bosch E67E-BB Gray 1986 5.0L SEFI
RBob.

i am trying to go with the accel brand.. since I heard
good reputation.
so how about 17lb injectors for a 3.1 though? will i need tuning and will it run crappy?

I ran 17lbs on a basically stock 3.1, it did absolutely nothing. (stock 15lb)
I ran 19lbs on a lightly modded 3.4, gave it a little more up top, took away down low. (stock 17lb)
Unless you have some mods, there is no need to go to bigger injectors. Your just spraying extra gas for nothing. The computer is designed to compensate quite a bit each direction. Is it 100% right then? No, but it will adjust as needed. I belive there are several people on this board with a handful of mods and still running stock injectors. Your best bet is to get the accell 15lbs if you just have money to blow, or get some other 15lb ones out of some other car, and have them professionally cleaned, then installed. No doubt after 190k, they are dirty.

thanks Dale,
I do believe my injector's pretty dirty now.
it got to a point where i get hard start sometime.. fuel pump and filter is new so Im suspecting the injectors.
now, as of running the car, lets say,
changing injector from my old dirty filthy to a new one,
will that give like better acceleration? and maybe better gas mileage too?
caz i do feel my car accelerate kinda slow..

Very possibly it will give better mpg. You will get a more even spray pattern, better atomizing, and even spray per cyl.
The slow accel could be a dozon different things.

I'm using the accel 17lb in my 2.8 right now. I did notice a nice difference in performance when i switched out the stock ones. More power, not sure on gas mileage but i'm assuming that it got better (did not test it). Definately worth the money imo.

slow2.8 is your motor stock or what, did you do any tuning or just drop in the 17's? curious as i need new injectors and was leaning toward the replacement accel 15's

yeah, I went with the 15lb accel
since the description said
15 needs no computer tuning.
and 17lb says that you need to tune or arrange or w/e
with ur computer..
ima noob with car computer,
so at this point for me I just got a 15lb..
still should make improvements on my gasmileage though
