I need some advice from you guys

I have an 87 firebird w/V6. I think the seller said he put a Hypertech chip and trans package. What else can i do to somewhat cheaply add power. I'm not looking for 5 trillion HP, i just want enough to beat those ricers at stoplights. This isnt the problem though, the problem is im getting broker as we speak, so Blowers and Superchargers are out of the question (unless you have one for sale!) Just let me know some combos to give me a boost in power.
~~ Thanks
Miles

If you already have money problems quit tinkering with the car tell you get that straitened out. Only do basic tuneups and NEEDED maintance. This was my problem, I didnt have the money and kept tinkering. 3-5 years of tinkering is now going to cost me 10-15years to get out of.

The hypertech may have added 5hp max, if not possibly worse. Any transpackage doesnt really add power, just helps it shift and more precise and specific points.

you may actualy be better off removing that chip. i son't know about the hypertech, but many of those chips just lie to the ECM by giving it false vallues from sensors so that it adds more fuel, often times all you do is reduce you MPG.

after all the maintinence issues have been cleared up and you know all your sensors are good, the best thing you could do for your engine would probably be headers and catback.

however, the engine may not be what you wawnt to focus on. i have a mostly stock 2.8, yet if i were to line up against the average 305 firebird (not a transam, somthing w/o WS6) and go on this 240* freeway onramp near my house I would be on the freeway first, my car sticks to the road like glue. i would focus on suspension and breaks. that is where these V6s have the advantage. my V6 has 53/47 weight distrobution as it sits right now, that is not bad at all. (50/50 is of course the ideal). besides, if you later decide to go with a larger engine, all of your suspension work will carry over to the new engine, unlike headers and catback which you would loose if you go SBC.

3.73 differential,
good exhaust,
hmmm open air filter
and underdrive pulley?

costs money and hard to make it fast
but yeah good luck..

change some of the suspension to a better one if u can afford,
if not get some new bushing for stable ride.

Dont worry about this car if your already rebuilding something else. It takes alot of cash to get anything really decent out of these engines.

Can it be done? Yes.

focus on your other car.
