Smog pump on 2.8 V6
I have a 1987 Firebird with a V6 2.8L and after sitting a few weeks in the driveway the smog pump seized up. I have found an article in this site explaining how to remove it but the article is about a V8. Did anyone do this work on a 2.8 and if so what kind of belt should I get.
If someone knows how a way to fix a seized smog pump any help will also be appreciated. Thank you.

hey man its really easy to take it off its only connected by 3 bolts... just take them out unplug the senson and cut the wires for it so its not just hangin there then go to advanced auto, or autozone and tell them you need a belt for the 2.8 w/ out the smog pump and they will look the size up for you cause some of them came w/ out the pump from the factory...sorry i can't remember the size of my belt or else i would tell ya...but just ask...hope this works for ya...

When you say unplug the sensor you are talking about the oxygen sensor on the exhaust, right?
Thank you very much for your help.

there is no smog pump sensor. DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR OXYGEN SENSOR! just unplug and tuck away any wires going to your smog pump. plug all tha vaccume lines, and be sure you plug the big exhaust line tool, or you will replace your smog pump with an exhasut leak.
if you like you can do what i did at first, just remove the pully and leave the pump there. i drove like that for about three days until i had time to pull the whole pump.
i'll go out and get that belt size for you. i have a non serpantine car. i don't know how your 87 is.

Thank you Xophertony, if you could get the size for the belt that would be great but my car is a serpentine one. I didn't check yet to see if I could find a belt for firebirds with no smog pump.
