You might want to check out LS1tech.com Click Here . Being your building a fourth generation (93-02), you won't be running into half of the problems that most third generations (82-92) do...
But to offer an opinion, you'd definitely want to be looking for a donor (salvage preferred) car; rollovers, some theft recoveries, etc. You don't need a clean title of course (which makes salage titles even cheaper), your just after the entire drivetrain, along with the PCM, wiring and it's sensors. With a donor, you can also obtain everything else needed (provided its still good) in one shot; radiator, stock motor mounts (for now), heck even the fuel pump (I would even consider swapping thw entire fuel tank w/sending unit....
Going with a turn-key engine is great. However, their great for people looking to replace their tired V8's. If your starting off with a V6, sure, a turn-key engine sounds great as well, but again, the problem is that you need more than just the engine to get her on the road. Rather than going the crate engine route (while spending the coming weeks/months looking for the additional parts needed, afterward), I would definitely consider a donor car, first and foremost. Kill all of those birds with one stone....
Good luck!
