What the ____ did I do??
My'92 V6 has had a bulb out behind the tach guage so I decided to finally replace it yesterday. All I did after that was park it in the garage. Now today, it wakes up with a real bad idle problem. Is there something I could have screwed up? I wouldn't think so. Maybe just a real big coincidence. It's had a very slight rough idle problem for about a year just while it's in drive. But now, when I'm slowing down for a red light when I get below 15mph, it's all it can do to stay running. It'll drop to about 700rpm and jump back up to about 1100 and back down really fast. Whill I'm just sitting there it seems run ok. Just slowing down is the problem. It takes off fine and runs perfect other than that. No engine light. Allthough, my engine light does come on periodically but hasn't in about a month or 2. It's says low voltage at the fuel pump. And when it does come on, I'll have to crank and crank to get it to start. Don't know if this problem is related or not. But all I did yesterday was unhook the battery and take apart the dash. Could it be the battery? Seems like it doesn't have the juice it used to when I start it. Or idle or intake sensors? I'm working on 188k miles on it.

i wanna say t.p,s sensor, because it sounds like it , but i dout that the bulb change has affected it? so yer saying you have checked the codes and you only found one in there? have you ever fixed that prob? is so then you should have reset the ecm, so the light goes off, other then that i can only assume you pump is goin out,or the injectors arent getting enough fire in the wire to keep it fired, ,,,, If you find some one who knows what there doing at auto zone, then ask them to test the tps sensor, they will for free,
just in case you dint know a bad tps can cause chity ideling,

Ok. I'll give it a few days and see how it goes. But it doesn't seem to be getting better yet. I'll probably be getting a new battery today. Almost didn't start a couple of times today. As far as the engine light goes. It only comes on when its hard to start and it gives off the fuel pump code. I can immediately turn the car off and wait about 10 secs and it'll start right up and engine light goes away. Whatever that problem is, its just intermittent. I did check the plug wires this morning in the dark for any arcing, but I found none. I'll try the tps sensor if it doens't get better. But it's not idled totally smooth for a long time (while in drive only), now it's just a problem thats gotten a lot worse all of a sudden.

The low voltage at the fuel pump is the relay. Just replace it. This will also cure the long crank times. When the relay is bad the fuel pump doesn't come on until there is oil pressure. Hence the requirement for a lot of cranking.
If you have an auto trans it may take a couple of weeks for the idle to square away. Search on 'idle learn' and my username as the author there is a simple procedure for a forced learn. It needs to be done every time the battery is disconnected, and yes, it is a pain.
