No laptop scanning for me I guess :(

I was kinda hoping to use my laptop with some program to do diagnostic stuff, but I heard back from moates that my computer is a '302' (sent him a picture of it), and he has nothing for that.

Anybody here ever come across a program that works with these V6's. (One that doesn't cost $600 preferably)

if it is the ECm I am thinking of, the 1985 2.8L def works fine. It is still 160 baud. You just are missing a few things.

Not to be a thread buster but I have a quick question. When I brought my 3.4 the guy gave me 2 ECMs with it. Can I take the chip out of one of those and put it in my 2.8 ECM? Will that help my gas mileage? Its not that bad but I was hoping I could get it a lil better. Now that I'm driving it ona daily basis it seems to be getting a lil worse.

i would think not. if it does work your fuel milage would get worse as the car would be adding fuel based on fuel tables for alot more displacement. in addtion to that the car (if it started) would be running on "soft fail" mode as i am sure a few of the sensors are different and would be out of range.

try it and let us know.
and next time make your own thread.

no you cant use a chip out of a 3.4 because that ECM controls the DIS, our cars dont have DIS. our cars are MPFI, the 3.4s are SFI, it means it fires the injectors differently.

Heh, yeah you had me confused there for a sec.

I've read about people here switching to SD from MAF. I suppose I can check back with the guy and see if he has anything for a v6 sd 730 ecm.

If I can switch it that is. I'll have to do some searching to see what exactly I read about that.

The only program I found so far was a kit with mutiple cables and it worked for many different vehicles. They want about $600 though because they figure only large shops are buying it.

Of course, I'd be paying just as much for a decent hand-held.
